Ava, real name Simone Johnson, best known as The Rock’s daughter, is no longer part of NXT after choosing not to renew her WWE contract. Initially, there was speculation that her decision was linked to the company’s release of her girlfriend, Tatyanna Dumas, although this hasn’t been confirmed. And now Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live has reported that he’s been told WWE offered her a lowball deal despite her being with the company for 6 years.
“I was told is that one of the big reasons she did not renew her contract was very similar to what happened with Jazmyn Nyx. She was making a certain amount of money, she had been there for a long time, and they weren’t offering her a big raise. She didn’t want to keep doing it for the money she was making.” – Bryan Alvarez
24-year-old Johnson signed with WWE in February 2020 as the first fourth-generation wrestler in company history. She would subsequently debut on NXT TV in October 2022 with the Schism faction and competed in a handful of matches. However, for unconfirmed reasons, she stepped away from the ring and, after being Shawn Michaels’ on-screen assistant, was named NXT General Manager. This saw her involved in shaping major storylines and getting regular television time, and therefore surprised fans when she announced her departure.
