Backstage News On Why The IInspiration Dropped Their Championships During TNA’s AMC Debut

During the premiere episode of Impact on AMC, The IInspiration dropped the Knockouts Tag Team Championships to The Elegance Brand, with fans initially believing the company wanted something big for the high-profile debut episode. However, it has now been reported by Fightful Select that Cassie Lee and Jess McKay were ending their current TNA run on good terms, with their latest short-term contracts having expired without an extension being agreed. The belief is that the pair were open to staying, suggesting their departure was either TNA’s decision or that the two sides were unable to agree on new financial terms.

“Back in October, Fightful Select reported that Cassie Lee and Jess McKay, The IInspiration, saw their deals with TNA expire despite winning the Knockouts tag team titles. Now, the duo have dropped those titles on the debut edition of TNA on AMC, and are set to leave the company. Fightful Select has learned that the duo did not sign new contracts after signing a series of short-term deals with TNA. We’re told that they were open to remaining with TNA, but ended up opting to finish up after this week.”Fightful Select

The close friends were trained by Madison Eagles in their home country of Australia and, after a successful tryout, signed with WWE in 2015. Initially making their name in NXT as Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, collectively known as The IIconics, they debuted on the main roster in 2018 and won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 35. However, due to budget cuts, they were released by WWE, leading them to adopt the name The IInspiration in TNA, where they were immediately pushed as a big deal.
