Former WWE and TNA star Bully Ray has shared a poignant reminder on X.com of the devastating impact of cyberbullying online, using the tragic death of Hana Kimura as an example of what being exposed to social media toxicity can lead to. While Kimura’s death wasn’t linked just to pro wrestling fans, unfortunately, many in the IWC can be just as vicious as those who effectively bullied the Japanese wrestler turned reality television star into taking her own life.
“As a not so gentle reminder… My friend Hana took her own life because of cyberbullying and hateful comments on this app. This is me doing my part…urging the toxic portion of the IWC to think twice. Yours, may be the last post someone reads.” – Bully Ray
Kimura, known as both a Japanese professional wrestler and cast member of Netflix’s Terrace House, tragically took her own life on May 23, 2020, after an episode featuring a heated argument with a housemate over damaged wrestling gear. It’s believed the 22-year-old would receive 100s of hateful messages a day after the episode aired, putting her into a dep depression. And while many subsequently hoped this would be a wake-up call to those who harass people online, Bully Ray having to post his reminder proves little has changed.
