Dakota Kai Explains Why She Hasn’t Wrestled Since Her WWE Release

WWE released Dakota Kai for the second time back in May, and while her non-compete has since expired, she hasn’t announced any indie bookings. This has led some fans to question whether she intends to continue her pro wrestling journey, with there being speculation that she could choose to focus on being a Twitch streamer. However, while appearing on the gaming platform, Kai, whose real name is Cheree Crowley, has revealed that she is simply taking a break and “we’re gonna get back into it.

“I miss wrestling, you guys, we’re gonna get back into it. It’s just one of those things where it has been nice to have a little bit of a break. I’ve been doing it for a long time, longer than the last seven years I was in WWE, you know what I mean? It’s nice to take a step back for a while, but I really do miss it.”Dakota Kai

37-year-old Kai first worked for WWE in 2015 and signed a contract with the company the following year. From there, she became an NXT regular and looked set for big things before being unexpectedly released in 2022 due to budget cuts. Still, her time away from the company would be short, as after Triple H took over creative and talent relations, one of his first actions was to re-sign her, leading to her joining Bayley and Iyo Sky as the original version of Damage CTRL.
