Dakota Kai Wrestles Under Her New Name For The First Time Since WWE Release

Former WWE wrestler Dakota Kai, released by the company last year, has made her highly anticipated return to the ring at EVE’s Wrestle Queendom 8 in London, England. Competing under the new ring name Charlie, she challenged Kris Statlander for the EVE International Championship, but ultimately the AEW star retained following three piledrivers. Fans in attendance have since praised Charlie’s strong performance in her first bout after nearly a year away, marking what is believed to be a full-time comeback to women’s wrestling.

37-year-old Charlie, real name Cheree Crowley, debuted in 2007 as Evie and went on to sign with WWE in 2016, becoming Dakota Kai. From there, she won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship twice, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship twice, and became a prominent member of the Damage CTRL stable. Released in May 2025, she took nearly a year off to rebuild her passion, but having now returned to action, it’s assumed she’ll get an opportunity with AEW or TNA in the near future.
