Deonna Purrazzo Shares The Emotional Toll Of Being Body-Shamed Online

ROH’s current Women’s Pure Champion Deonna Purrazzo has unfortunately suffered a great deal of body shaming throughout her wrestling career because she isn’t a size zero. And now, while speaking on GabbyAF, the former TNA Knockout has opened up about the relentless body shaming she endures online, noting that after making her AEW return in 2024, all fans cared about was “what my body looked like.

“Every time I tweet, tweets back, ‘you’re fat, you’re a pig, you’re obese,’ a GIF of like someone jiggling their belly. Every tweet. It’s nonstop. It’s hard to see those things over and over and over again and then not have your brain stuck on it, and also not have your brain then repeat those things to you. And I think that when I first started at AEW, I went through such bad body shaming, and AEW had to turn the comments off of one of my posts. And people, like, they didn’t care about my match with Red Velvet. They cared about what my body looked like. And for me, it was kind of like I thought we had a great match.”Deonna Purrazzo

31-year-old Deonna Purrazzo broke into the business in 2013 after training under Damian Adams and Rip Rogers. Subsequently, she gained prominence on the independent circuit and in ROH before joining WWE. And while her time with WWE was far from memorable because management did not believe she was ready for television, she would go on to excel in Impact Wrestling, which opened the door to becoming All Elite.
