This past weekend, Rhea Ripley took to social media to request that fans “Do not swarm me or anyone like a pack of rabid zombies,” with a video subsequently shared showing over a dozen fans of various ages, all trying to get selfies. Yet, while her husband Buddy Matthews addressed this himself on X, calling it “Absolutely disgusting,” not everyone agrees that the fans were in the wrong. And now sharing this view, Vince Russo has addressed this situation on one of his podcasts, asking the WWE star, “What type of business did you think you were getting into?

“So my first question to her would be, what type of business did you think you were getting into? You got into the sports entertainment business to be a celebrity and make a lot of money. That comes with celebrity. If you want privacy, if you don’t want people hounding you or knowing who you are, then you’re probably in the wrong business … Either have someone from the office go with you, go with one of the male wrestlers, hire a bodyguard, you make enough money, or go to your company and say, ‘I don’t feel comfortable, I need security.’ She’s got four or five different options rather than cutting a promo on the fans that are paying her salary.”Vince Russo

28-year-old Ripley, real name Demi Bennett, signed with WWE back in 2017 and, after impressing during runs in NXT UK and NXT, was rewarded with a main roster call-up in 2021. Still, she has previously disclosed that at one time, she felt she was incredibly close to being released and credits her dramatic change of appearance and overall positive mindset as being why this didn’t happen.
