It has long been claimed that WWE would eventually hold a WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia, and this speculation became fact after a press release in Arabic was accidentally sent out prematurely on Wednesday. And now, while discussing this on Wrestling Observer Radio, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has stated that the reason WrestleMania had to take place in the Middle Eastern country in 2027 is because it is the 300th anniversary of Saudi Arabia becoming a country, and “they’re paying the money for it.”
WWE began running house shows in Saudi Arabia in 2014 and signed a substantial deal to hold annual pay-per-view-quality events in the country. And while over the years, a significant number of WWE’s critics have voiced concern over the company’s acceptance of money from the country, defenders of the arrangement argue that WWE’s presence is helping to bring about a positive change, citing women being permitted to wrestle in the country as an example.
