Earlier this week, WWE referee Daphanie LaShaunn took to X to post “It’s not goodbye. It’s see ya later,” which immediately led fans to think she had left the company. Subsequently, she would clarify that this wasn’t the case, and the tweet had been about her passing away.
Still, rather than just accepting that there had been a misunderstanding, several so-called fans would criticize the ref for worrying them unnecessarily. And now showing that LaShaunn is well aware of the terrible comments tweeted towards her, she has seemingly quit the platform, saying, “I’ll see y’all when I see yall.”
31-year-old LaShaunn, real name is Aja Smith, broke into the business as an in-ring competitor in 2013, going on to wrestle future stars such as Jordynne Grace, Priscilla Kelly, Shotzi, and Chelsea Green. However, while her peers went on to sign with WWE as wrestlers, she was instead offered the opportunity to become a referee, which she accepted. From there, she notably became the first black female referee to officiate a match at WrestleMania. Additionally, she briefly held the WWE 24/7 Championship after pinning Nikki Cross on a house show.
