Jade Cargill has sparked controversy on X after tweeting a jab at Jordynne Grace, saying that she left her “glutes at home,” following her SmackDown debut in Berlin. And while this was obviously playful banter between two gym regulars, some fans would later accuse the former AEW star of body-shaming Grace. Still in a typical Cargil fashion, the WWE Women’s Champion isn’t taking any nonsense from fans online and would unapologetically respond by tweeting, “Oh shut up. It’s always something with y’all.”
While this isn’t an example of it, body-shaming remains a persistent issue in professional wrestling, an industry where performers’ bodies are constantly on display and judged by fans, bookers, and colleagues. Nowadays, wrestlers face relentless online criticism, pressure to conform to particular physiques, which are historically linked to steroid use, and comments that impact their mental health. Notable examples include Cora Jade, who claimed that constant WWE remarks hindered her potential, and Deonna Purrazzo, who recently described the emotional distress she experienced from backlash to her AEW full-time debut.
